How to Install the Software on a Network (full versions)
Programs that come on diskette: Animated
Beginning Typing Run the SETUP program to install the files to your server. You can point the other PCs to the .EXE file that runs the program (i.e. TYPING.EXE). All the files for the program are contained in a single directory - nothing is copied to the Windows directory. Programs that come on CD: Animated
Spelling Copy the program files in the subdirectory of the CD to the server. You can point the other PCs to the .EXE file that runs the program (i.e. SPELLING.EXE). All the files for the program are contained in a single directory - nothing is copied to the Windows directory. Animated Beginning Phonics Use the full install option to install all of the files to a mapped network drive. Be sure to install to a network drive, not a local drive. This should work fine, but in case there is any problem, here is some information that should help: The directory on your server's hard drive should contain PHONICS.EXE, CONTROL.EXE GAME.DAT, OVR_LOC.DAT and PHONICS.OVR. If you have trouble running the program (unable to load error message), it is most likely a problem with the contents of the OVR_LOC.DAT file. You may need to edit this file (notepad or any ASCII editor). OVR_LOC.DAT is an ASCII file created by SETUP that has the location of the PHONICS.OVR file (drive:\directory). It should contain the drive:\directory of the mapped network drive on your server where the five files for the program reside. Here is what the five files are: PHONICS.EXE - runs the main program CONTROL.EXE - runs the Parent/Teacher control so they can choose the number of problems the student must perform in order to get to the games. GAME.DAT - ASCII file that starts with a value of 10. The value is changed by CONTROL.EXE. OVR_LOC.DAT - ASCII file created by SETUP that has the location of the PHONICS.OVR file (drive:\directory) PHONICS.OVR - the graphics and sound files for the program. |
